Hey. How’s it going today?
Do you have those days, where you just want to eat bad. Like fast food, on a bagel, with a bag of chips on the side bad? No, me either.
On days when I feel like I want a “cheat meal” these Tomato Free Sloppy Joe are the best. It takes me back to being a little kid, eating that sauce stuff from a can, dripping down my arm. Potato chips on the bun too, cause you need a good crunch on a sandwich.
Now a days, I have fresh made chips, and pile on this homemade saucy, meaty deliciousness.
Nom Nom!!

Tomato Free Sloppy Joe
- 1 1/2 lbs ground meat
- 1 small or 1/2 medium onion, diced
- 1 large clove garlic, minced
- 1 large carrot, diced
- 1/2 cup Mom’s Sauce
- 2 Tbsp spicy brown mustard
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tsp coconut sugar
- 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 tsp BBQ rub
- 1 1/4 tsp seasoned salt mix
- 1/2 cup water
- hot sauce to taste, optional
Brown meat with carrots and onions in a large heavy bottom pan, such as cast iron. Season with BBQ rub and salt mix.
Once the meat is no longer pink, add in garlic. Mix well.
In a small bowl, mix mom sauce, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, sugar and vinegar. Stir until sugar dissolves.
Stir sauce and water into meat mixture. Cover, cook on low until vegetables are soft, and the sauce thickens.
Serve over chips, in a sweet potato or on your favorite gluten free bread.
Enjoy!
