Good morning. Happy Weekend to you.
Having developed my allergies later in life was very difficult for me. There were foods that I ate my whole life, and loved, and then one day I could not have any longer. It was actually quite depressing for a while.
I am very thankful that I have had the opportunity to create delicious replacements for those foods that I miss most. Some are exactly the same, just made at home. Others require a bit of thinking.
This BBQ sauce was one of those that required some thought. This passed the son test, and that is saying something. That boy loves his BBQ sauce.

Sweet Mustard BBQ Sauce
- 1 cup Mom’s Sauce
- 1/4 cup coconut sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 3 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 Tbsp buckwheat honey, or molasses
- 3/4 tsp Seasoned Salt Mix
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1 Tbsp heaping spicy brown mustard
Mix all ingredients in a medium non reactive pot.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer.
Cook about 1 hour until sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon. The sauce will get a bit thicker once cooled.
Transfer to storage container. Keep BBQ sauce in the fridge.
Enjoy!
